I am looking for a way to run the Oracle database client on a Mac running OS X. The server will be on a remote host. There used to be a Mac version of Oracle 10gR2 Client, but now I can't find it on Oracle's site, they only have the newer 11g Client which has not been ported to OS X. To get the latest Java from Oracle, you will need Mac OS X 10.7.3 and above. If you have Java 7 or later versions, you will see a Java icon under System Preferences. Java versions 6 and below are listed in the Java Preferences.app located in the Applications > Utilities folder on your Mac.

I am trying to learn Oracle SQL with the help of the book 'Oracle SQL by Example' and it recommends that I download Oracle 11g to be able to take full advantage of what the book has on offer when it comes to practising the skills I learn.
However, Oracle's website seems not to offer 11g for Mac and I cannot find a link to 10g that is still valid (or, indeed, that doesn't dead end at the Oracle website). Does anyone have any suggestions. Thanks.

The simplest route might be to install VirtualBox and one of the pre-built VM images Oracle provides. It's simpler to get started than having to navigate the database software installation and DB creation, if you aren't interested in those aspects at the moment.
The Database App Development VM gives you a pre-installed database, plus SQL*Plus and SQL Developer to run examples and your own code as you learn.

Not interested in virtualizing another OS.

Never tried it, just found this: MacSequel
MacSequel is Oracle Query tool written from the ground up for your Mac OSX. I made this because I was sick of all those bloated 'Java' based tools which takes minutes to load and consumes huge amount of memory. MacSequel is native Mac, starts quickly, runs smooth and is not bloated with thousands of features you will never use.
